№ 376. Theology after Carmina Burana

In this great fiat of the little girl Mary, the strength and foundation of our life of contemplation is grounded, for it means absolute trust in God, trust which will not set us free from suffering but will seift us free from anxiety, hesitation, and above all from the fear of suffering. Trust which makes us willing to be what God wants us to be, however great or however little that may prove. Trust which accepts God as illimitable Love.” ---- The Reed of God by Caryll Houselander

'The Reed of God' depicts the intimately human side of Mary, Mother of God, as an empty reed waiting for God's music to be played through her.

Bento Box:

A friend who belongs to a Catholic religious order posted the passage above.

I thought, it is such a beautiful love letter to God composed by a devotee.

And then, a second idea came. I also thought that, if I were God, how can I not fall in love with such longing, such devotion?

Third idea. I remember the thesis of Reza Aslan which states that, through the centuries, we humans have crafted a God in our image and likeness. Over many generations, we created and evolved an image of a God who is the reflection and a personification of our highest aspirations and ideals. He became our template of and for our most ardent hopes--- our hopes for a loving, peaceful, happy, meaningful and prosperous world.

Fourth idea. Is God a human creation? Is he somebody we need in this phase of evolution which we may, in the future, learn to outgrow and discard?

Fifth. I wonder if in other realms of the galaxy/universe where other civilizations exist they have a similar experience and history of God or an idea of God.
